Dental Sedation for Relaxation

At Birchmount Dental Group, Dr. Stephen Ing is our onsite anesthesiologist. He provides dental sedation services which are designed to make your experience as pleasant as possible. We recognize the importance of good dental hygiene and realize that a mental aspect may come into play, preventing some people from seeing their dentist regularly.

We have several options to help ease the anxiety associated with dental work. We have laughing gas (nitrous oxide), oral sedation, and IV sedation to help take the edge off during your visit.

We can help children and adults who feel nervous about an oral checkup or different aspects of dental work, patients with a strong gag reflex, and those who find dental freezing uncomfortable. Each patient is different, and we can help you decide what is best for you.

Learn More About Our Specialists

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is administered through the mouth and nose. It helps you feel relaxed, reduces anxiety, and increases pain tolerance. While you generally remain awake, some patients fall asleep. If this happens, our team will gently wake you once the procedure is completed.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation can be an effective option for nervous patients who would benefit from the relaxing side effects of sedatives at the right dosage to induce deep relaxation, or even sleep. This helps with anxiety and provides comfort throughout the dental procedure.

IV Sedation

With IV (intravenous) sedation, you will remain conscious (awake) and can communicate with your dentist and dental team. Because of the extremely relaxed state experienced by this technique, IV sedation is also referred to as 'twilight sleep'.
